Who is Andy Avery?

Andy Avery is a highly regarded professional bridge player, teacher, and entertainer. He’s a certified “Larry Cohen Teaching Pro,” part of the renowned bridge expert Larry Cohen’s network of instructors. Larry Cohen has praised him highly: “I’ve known Andy for over 40 years and I think he is one of the best teachers and most personable players in the game of bridge.”

Andy achieved Life Master status in 1974 and has competed in national and international events for decades. For the past 15+ years, he’s focused full-time on teaching bridge at all levels—from beginners in small private sessions to advanced players in large seminars, online, and group classes. What distinguishes Andy from many other prominent bridge instructors is his emphasis on mastering core fundamentals (bidding, play, defense) rather than overloading students with rare or complex conventions. His sessions are infused with charm, humor, storytelling—and occasionally a song or two. Andy has an approachable and personable teaching style which make learning enjoyable and effective for players of all abilities.
